14. Sauveterre-de-Rouergue

This royal bastide is a masterpiece of urban balance, with endless charm, featuring half-timbered houses and the remains of fortifications, moats and ancient gates, all built around an arcaded square.

Renowned for its knives, Sauveterre-de-Rouergue is also known as the childhood village of the explorer Lapérouse. Today, many artists and craftspeople have settled here, making the village even more appealing.
