Chichen-Itza is the major archaeological vestige of the Maya-Toltec civilisation of Yucatan, Mexico. The site dates back to the first half of the 5th century. Initially created by the Mayas, Chichen-Itza was invaded by the Toltecs in the 10th century. The two cultures seem to have blended harmoniously. The site declined in the 15th century and was discovered in 1841.
