Between the 9th and 15th centuries, the Angkor region was very prosperous. Spanning over 400 km², the Angkor site bears witness to the ingenuity and nobility of Khmer architecture. There are around 40 Hindu and Buddhist temples. There are also hydraulic structures including basins, dykes, reservoirs and canals.
