50. Taipei 101

Completed in 2004, Taipei 101 was the world's tallest skyscraper until 2010. Standing 509 metres tall with 101 floors (hence its name), it is a masterpiece of ingenuity and modernism. Built like a pagoda resembling a giant bamboo stalk, it is also equipped with a damper weighing over 600 tonnes, enabling the building to counteract the effects of strong winds and earthquakes, which are common on the island. It is this damper that I am presenting to you. It is also worth noting that it has the fastest lift in the world (60 km/h).
