Built during the reign of an emperor of the Qin dynasty (Qin Shi Huang: 250–210 BC), who gave his name to the Middle Kingdom, the mausoleum contains thousands of terracotta statues stored in a necropolis. In total, no fewer than 8,000 soldiers, 670 horses and 130 chariots were originally part of this funerary complex.
