Rising 370 metres above the forest, Sigiriya Rock or Lion Rock is a must-see in Sri Lanka. At the top of this impressive monolith are the remains of an ancient royal fortress built in the 5th century by King Kassapa I. To climb it, you have to pass between two gigantic lion paws carved into the rock. Unfortunately, this is all that remains of the incredible statue that was the ‘guardian’ of Lion Rock.
