At 160 metres long, it is one of the greatest masterpieces of Gothic art and one of the largest churches in Christianity. Its construction began in the 13th century, and its gigantic dome is the symbol of the city of Florence. At the time it was built, it was the largest in the world, measuring 47 metres in diameter and 100 metres in height.
