Emblematic monument of Rio de Janeiro, also known as Christ of the Corcovado, this almost 40-metre-high statue was inaugurated on 12 October 1932, although the idea seems to date back to 1859. This 1,145-tonne work of reinforced concrete has its arms pointing north-south.
