5. Saint-Suliac

Listed among the ‘most beautiful villages in France’, Saint-Suliac, near Saint-Malo, was founded by a Breton monk in the 6th century and has retained its authenticity and harbour atmosphere. It is a pleasure to stroll through these narrow streets, known as ‘ruettes’, before admiring its 13th-century church with its superb 17th-century façade.

This is the Oratory of the Virgin of Grainfolet, which overlooks the village and the port and is a moving memorial erected in tribute to the Terre-Neuvas, the brave sailors who set out to fish for cod on the banks of Newfoundland.
