Vézelay is famous for its basilica, a major centre of Christianity and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The charming little village, which is also a listed site, is perched on a hill.

The basilica has been known throughout Europe since the 11th century for housing the relics of Saint Mary Magdalene. Vézelay was a key stop for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
