The one who invented this term in 1794 is Henri Grégoire, bishop of Blois, but the one who did this wretched thing for the first time was probably a troglodyte who defiled some cave drawing to protest against global warming.
But here I present to you the most famous such scoundrel of antiquity, the one who set fire to one of the wonders of the world, the temple of Artemis in Ephesus. He did this to become famous and he succeeded! But I'm not going to say his name here and please don't do it either, to spite him(!).
