Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres wanted to become the guardian of academic and classical painting. But life wanted it otherwise: he became the inspiration of Picasso, he is known today for a lustful and somewhat kitsch painting and he is best known for his violin, which he only played as an amateur.
