Rastrelli

Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, a Florentine architect born in 1700 in Paris, moved in 1716 to Saint Petersburg, thus becoming one of the pillars of the great Russian culture. His major works, including the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg and the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, are famed for extravagant luxury and opulence of decoration.
