Edgar

Edgar Allan Poe (1809 – 1849) was an American writer, poet, editor, and literary critic--best known for his poetry, short stories, tales of mystery and the macabre--major figure in world literature, inventor of the detective fiction genre, and forerunner of science fiction. Edgar was the first well-known American writer to earn a living solely through writing, which led to a financially difficult career and life. Four years short of his death, Edgar published his poem "The Raven" to instant success.
